TF2: The Board Game began as a project for one of my classes at DigiPen with the premise to convert the popular video game Team Fortress 2 into a board game. The most interesting part of this project to me was distinguishing which of the game's mechanics was most important and comprised the core of the game experience. Despite the obvious boundaries and limitations of being non-digital game, the board game features all 9 classes from the original game, all of which have strengths and weaknesses mimicking their digital counterparts. In addition, it features two modes: Capture the Flag and Control Point.
Working on this project was a personal challenge, recreating one of my favorite games of all time in non-digital form. This project gave me more practice with unit balancing as well as compelling me to come up with interesting solutions to class features that would remain true to the original version of the game. The final result was a game that is not only fun to play but also shares the Team Fortress 2 feel.
